Who We Are:
|

The Special Needs Support Center of the Upper Valley, or SNSC, assists children
with special needs and their families face their unique challenges. Besides
coping with whatever physical, intellectual, or emotional disabilities they may
have, they face the societal challenges of acceptance, appropriate education,
opportunities for jobs, and recreation.
SNSC is a grassroots organization, started 30 years ago by families of children
with special needs - any type of special need, such as Down syndrome, autism,
hearing or visual impairment, diabetes, and many others.
Examples of programs offered include respite care, educational advocacy, support
groups, information & referral, mentoring, and social opportunities.
As a result of our services, children and families served are more productive,
have greater independence, and are empowered to contribute to their communities.

Much of SNSC work of information,
referral, emotional support and
networking with parents and
professionals is done
by telephone and email.

SNSC believes that parents can often find their greatest support in other parents
who are in a similar situation. We offer a place for parents to find information,
support, and services that can meet the individual needs of their families. We
believe that parents can share, laugh and learn from each other. Support through
education, social, and respite opportunities helps to empower parents to face the
challenge of helping their child grow to their greatest potential within their
school and community. We believe that parents become empowered by sharing and
learning from each other. It is our view that families in similar situations can
often best help one another and that these parents should be able to actively
participate in the plans for their children.
Programs offered by SNSC are not limited to one or just a few "special needs."
We offer programs and services to families of children with any kind of special
need - such as Down syndrome, autism, hearing or sight impairment, diabetes,
cerebral palsy, ADHD, depression, dyslexia, dysphasia, and many others.
Feedback from our consumers tells us we are fulfilling our mission of assisting
families of children with special needs meet their unique challenges.
